Sustainability Public Awareness Campaign at Franklin Pierce University

September 4, 2013

Beginning with a Campus Sustainability Day event on October 23, the student-run Pierce Media Group at Franklin Pierce University will launch “Voices: Engaging Communication for Sustainability.” The year-long project is funded by a New England Campus Sustainability Forum mini-grant, through the collaboration of the Fitzwater Center for Communication and the Sustainability Center at Franklin Pierce. The project’s goals are to help students “find their voice” in the sustainability movement and to empower the individual with the knowledge and skills to exercise that voice both at Franklin Pierce University and in the world beyond.

The public awareness campaign will include two guest-speaker-panel webcasts featuring communication and sustainability professionals in October; production of a public-service announcement for television and social media in January 2014; production of a series of public-service radio announcements; and a monthly column in the campus newspaper the Pierce Arrow.

The project will give students opportunities to gain practical experience and explore their career potential in the field of sustainability communications. It will expose Franklin Pierce students to the “triple bottom line” – people, profit, and planet – and its relevance to sustainability efforts at the University and beyond.

Pierce Media Group will receive the grant award at the 2013 New England Campus Sustainability Forum on September 20 in Boston. The Pierce Media Group will present its campaign at the April 2014 Academic Showcase on Franklin Pierce’s Rindge campus and at the New England Campus Sustainability Forum in September 2014 at a New England location to be determined.
