The Franklin Pierce Difference

Computer Information Technology

A degree in Computer Information Technology (CIT) prepares students to succeed in a rapidly growing discipline that offers career opportunities in any IT area that requires technically competent professionals. Franklin Pierce University offers a Bachelor of Science and Bachelor of Arts degree in Computer Information Technology.

The B.S degree prepares students for jobs in programming, web design and maintenance, systems analysis and design, database design and management, networking technologies and IT project management. The B.A. prepares students for jobs that require application of IT skills to their chosen field.

The liberal arts core at Franklin Pierce helps CIT students become effective communicators, disciplined thinkers, creative problem solvers and solid contributors to a technology team. This provides a competitive advantage in today's business climate and helps Franklin Pierce graduates make significant contributions in their careers and the field of computer information technology..

Course Details

Both the B.S. and B.A. programs have a common foundation of 12 CIT courses. The B.S. curriculum requires an additional six CIT courses, while the B.A. curriculum provides a choice of four Areas of Concentration: Business, Multimedia Applications, Criminal Justice, and Environmental Science/Geographic Information Systems. It is recommended that students declare the CIT major during their freshman year. CIT faculty are actively involved in advising students as they enter and pursue their chosen curriculum.

I have a great position with the U.S. Peace Corps. I am in Africa, in Namibia, at a teachers’ resource center. I’ve been training community members on basic computer skills and have been working closely with the Namibian government, specifically the Ministry of Education, fixing computers for them and doing network troubleshooting.

— Sam Dolph, 06, Computer Information Technology Major
